Alex and Dan McClanahan sit down with Photovision correspondent, Lori Nordstrom, to discuss their recent studio developments and how they balance commercial and portraiture work. They talk about how buying out a building complex and renting space to tenants allows them more freedom in their photography business. Dan talks about how getting work creating sports posters for Iowa State basketball has affected his portraiture inquiries, as it draws in a more diverse clientele. They wrap up talking about the importance of taking fun, personal images to satiate your creative side and keep your passion for photography strong.

Their work quickly made waves in the photo industry with multiple Grand Imaging Awards, WPPI 1st place awards, and magazine features.

Alex's background in Graphic Design has been an invaluable asset to the studio. Alex designs all of the studio's finished pieces and runs client viewing appointments. She initiated mandatory mid–afternoon dance parties back in 2010 and studio morale has been soaring ever since. Outside of work she tears up the slopes on her snowboard, crochets bold hats, concocts delicious experiments in the kitchen and cherishes quality time with family and friends.
