I really value being part of a professional organization like PPA. With the tremendous influx of new "professionals" to our industry, it's so important to set myself apart and above as much as I can. Getting my certification and joining PPA is a huge piece of that puzzle. Healthy competition is good for any industry, but I feel that we need to be smarter about qualifying and requiring certification. Being a member of PPA is just part of being "professional." I am proud to be a part of this organization. And, every month when I read through Professional Photographer I feel like I pick up one new little tidbit. There is always something new to learn. SMS has also helped out my business. Before we got SMS help, I really had no idea how to price nor did I realize how much product actually cost. SMS really helped give me great insight into what the true cost of doing business was.Hide Heather Donlan • PPA Member Since 2007
Clients in every industry seek out credentialed professionals because certification is a sign that someone is an authority in the field. The Certified Professional Photographer and Certified Drone Photographer designations offer potential clients an assurance not just of quality but of technical skill and artistic expertise.
The entire CPP process, including the CPP exam, can be completed online. PPA offers candidates resources to prepare for the exam and the technical image evaluation.
Potential clients want a photographer they can count on, and certification gives them that extra level of confidence. With hundreds, sometimes thousands of photographers advertising in the same market, it's not always an easy task to get them through your studio doors. But advertising as a CPP is one way to distinguish yourself from the masses. Certification gives clients a concrete business reason to put you on their shortlist.
The digital era has made it much easier for inexperienced and fly-by-night photographers to throw their hats into the ring, undercutting professionals with rock bottom prices. Becoming certified as a photographer is an easy way to help consumers understand and appreciate your level of experience and talent.
Certification is granted by Professional Photographers of America, the world's largest non-profit association organized for professional photographers. That speaks volumes to potential clients about your skill. Certified Professional Photographers must recertify every three years. Once clients know this, they understand that education, training, and the latest industry techniques and skills are essential to you and your images.
If you're ready to take the first step to become certified, join PPA and declare your candidacy.
