What’s New in the Marketing and Communications Department at PPA?

New Website & Logo!

It’s a lot of fun (and a lot of work!) handling the marketing and communications for PPA. We have to make sure we’re spreading the word to our over 30,000 members about all the ways PPA can currently help your business succeed. It’s a lot of work…but it is so worth it when we hear from members who are watching their dreams of owning their own photography business come true.

One thing we’re always telling our working photographers is to stay up-to-date on branding and finding a voice for their small business. Well, it’s time we took our own advice! It has been a long time coming, but this spring, PPA is unveiling a brand-new website and all-new logo. The new logo design brings the first changes to the logo since 2008 and the biggest overhaul since 2003.

To find the perfect visual representation of a 150-year strong association, PPA hired several graphic designers to present their takes on the logo. The candidates were narrowed down to four strong contenders who made it to the next round where they were judged against a set of key elements.

7 key elements formed the criteria PPA used while searching for:

  1. Functionality
  2. Neutral brand equity
  3. Justified left/right/center alignment options
  4. Versatile printing and reproduction options
  5. Can be defended/trademarked
  6. Simplicity
  7. Reflection of who PPA is today

The new logo began to make its appearance in emails and on the website in February and continues its roll out alongside the all-new PPA.com.

The new website will feature all your favorite things about your current web experience, just streamlined and polished up to be more modern, clean, and easy-to-use. You’re going to love it when you see it in the weeks ahead.

“PPA is in it for the long run,” says Marketing Director, Carla Plouin. “We don’t change things for trends or fads. We always do what’s right for the organization. This means understanding who our members are and serving them as best as we can. In doing so, we realized the shift in our membership demographics and wanted to better suit their needs. After 20+ years with the same logo, the same look and feel, it was fitting to now embrace a more modern, minimalist, and more inviting brand identity to better reflect our membership and how we serve them.”

By the way… Super 1 Day Has a New Name!

The name has now changed to PPA Photography Workshops. This change will take some getting used to, but it was done with you all in mind to help improve attendance rates (it's also so much better for SEO, and to make it easier to find for non-PPA members.)

Fall Photography Workshop Date Change – Thanks to Your Input!

Your surveys told us that September is a way better time for you than October. We heard you, so we changed the dates! The workshops will now take place in the first two full weeks of September. This year those dates are September 7-21.
