PPA Announces Industry-Changing Membership Plan

Photography association takes action to ensure all members have liability coverage.

ATLANTA, GA – In an unprecedented move to protect its members, Professional Photographers of America has announced the creation of a new membership level that includes liability insurance.

The new level, called Full Plus Membership, features general liability coverage, plus access to equipment insurance, business tools, and educational resources.  PPA members opting in for the program will reap big benefits from a small price tag; Full Plus Membership is available for less than $36 per month.*

“PPAs growing membership base and continued financial stability paved the way for this exciting, new option for professional photographers,” PPA Chief Financial Officer Scott Kurkian noted. “Ultimately, this offering makes general liability protection more accessible to the photographic community.”

The move is the latest step in the association’s long history of supporting its members. PPA created its Indemnification Trust 45 years ago to shield working photographers from on-the-job errors or equipment failures that can lead to lawsuits. In 2011, the association also began offering a $15,000 equipment insurance policy with every membership. Other initiatives, such as a full-time lobbying effort on Capitol Hill, are less visible yet still reflect the association’s deep commitment to safeguarding its members and their work.

“Protecting photographers has always been at the heart of what we do,” said PPA President Jeff Dachowski. “When PPA prospers, the first thing we do is look for fresh ideas to help our members prosper, too.”

The Full Plus membership general liability coverage was created to meet the exact needs of PPA members. While a standard general liability policy offers coverage for a variety of common incidents like third-party bodily injury and property damage and personal or advertising injury, the policy in the new membership level will help members protect against the day-to-day liability risks photographers face.”

As with its other member benefits, PPA does not make a profit on the liability protection that comes with the Full Plus membership.

“It's always exciting to add a new benefit of this magnitude. That is especially true with this one, which has been years in the making," says PPA CEO David Trust. "To see it become reality is beyond exciting. It is monumental—a game changer in the photographic industry."

Members who want to maintain their current membership level need not do anything; their membership will continue as always. Members who want to upgrade their current membership level to Full Plus, can do so by visiting PPA.com/GetFullPlus

Kristen Morgan, PPA Director of Member Value and Experience, sums it up best: “From a purely financial perspective, this is by far the best liability insurance option for professional photographers.”
