The Eyes Have It

Every eye is unique, says Armenian photographer Suren Manvelyan, whose series of macro images reveals the stunning colors and patterns of human and animal eyes. Manvelyan faces several challenges in making these photos: being close enough and making sure the model is still enough to get a sharp focus; avoiding reflections in the eyeball; capturing enough depth of field; and providing enough light. “We see eyes so many times per day but never suspect they have this hidden beauty in them,” he says. “Some of them are beautiful; some of them are creepy. But [either] way, they are breathtaking.”
