The world’s most versatile and affordable light meter for the next generation of photographers and cinematographers.

Tokyo, Japan, March 1st, 2018 - Sekonic Corporation, the leader in innovation and engineering of photographic light meters, announced today their latest addition to the L-308 series of light meters, the Flashmate L-308X-U. Designed to meet the needs of the next generation of image makers; the new L-308X-U, retaines the compact and intuitive design of its predecessors the L-308S and L-308DC while blending their best features and functionality into one meter. Also added in are new features, such as the long-awaited LCD backlight, Aperture (F) priority (photo mode), and ISO 850 for cinema camera’s native ISO; making the L-308X-U truly the most versatile photo/cine meter on the market.
"The versatility of today’s cameras has expanded the capabilities and creativity of today’s image makers at an amazing rate. With just one camera, today’s shooters have become multimedia image‐makers blending both still and moving images seamlessly for the ultimate in storytelling”, stated Kenji Sawai, Executive Officer of Sales & Marketing. “Sekonic is the recognized leader in light measuring tools for both the still and motion picture industries. We have taken our expertise and years of experience to create the perfect hybrid entry‐level light meter, ideal for the next generation of multi‐talented, value-conscious photographers and cinematographers.”
A Legacy of Accuracy
Pocket-sized and exceptionally accurate, the L-308X-U Flashmate Light Meter from Sekonic is a compact tool for metering both ambient and flash lighting as well as working in video with dedicated Cine and HD Cine modes. Equipped with a sliding lumisphere, the L-308X-U is able to measure ambient light as well as reflected light via a lens with a 40° reception angle. This meter also has a wide metering range, from 0 to 19.9 EV at ISO 100, and can work with flash within a range of f/1.0 to f/90.9 at ISO 100. Repeat accuracy is also important when metering, and the L-308X delivers with a rating of <0.1 EV on repeat exposures.

Maximum Versatility
Last year Sekonic introduced their groundbreaking flag ship light meter, the Speedmaster L-858. By merging functionality for both photography and cinematography into one light meter, Sekonic created a powerful and invaluable tool for image makers of every kind. Now Sekonic is bringing that philosophy to the immensely popular L-308 series with the new Flashmate L-308X-U.

Three Ways to Meter:
Sekonic created the L-308X to be three meters in one to keep pace with the demands of modern image creators. It features three metering modes.
Photo Mode for still image photographers featuring shutter or aperture priority display of a full range of ambient and flash functions including cord and cordless flash measurement, as well as ambient EV measurement.
HD Cine Mode is perfect for DSLR and mirrorless videographers who need to take exposure readings and control light using shutter speeds and frame rates. Plus, get aperture settings with one-tenth stop accuracy.
Cine Mode, designed for use with cinema grade cameras, allows users to select from the most useful frame rates and shutter angles for exposure control with one-tenth stop accuracy.
Users in all modes can easily switch between incident and reflected light via the sliding Lumisphere and HD Cine and Cine mode users can measure illuminance in either Lux or Foot Candles with the optional Lumidisc. (Sold separately.)
