First-Time Instructor Spotlight: Alysia Vargas Leads Her First PPA Workshop

Twice a year, PPA hosts photo workshops across the country, with photographers sharing their talents of teaching to classrooms of excited photographers. Classes cover nearly every topic and give instructors the opportunity to earn speaking merits towards their degree. Our call for instructors closes February 18, so there’s still time to register to teach a class!
Why Become a PPA Workshop Instructor?
We encourage any photographer with a special skill or a willingness to give back to their community to try teaching a class! Being a PPA Workshop instructor expands your knowledge base, increases confidence, and widens your circle of professionals.
Many photographers report that teaching a workshop strengthens their understanding of their subject material more than anything else. The saying, “we learn the most by teaching” has a lot of merit! Plus, with every workshop you teach, you’ll earn 2 speaking merits toward your PPA degree.
Alysia Vargas, CPP, Teaches Her First Ever PPA Workshop This Spring!
This spring, we chatted with Alysia Vargas, CPP who will be teaching her first ever PPA Workshop entitled, “Mastering Studio Maternity Portraits,” from her studio, Pleasantly Captured Photography based in Jacksonville, North Carolina.
Alysia is a self-described visual thinker with a love for comic books, and she’s always been drawn to creative expression. In 2020, she began photography as a part-time gig, photographing a little bit of everything before discovering her interest in teaching. As someone with ADHD, she likes to teach her students that learning doesn’t have to be rigid, “it can be fun and flexible.”
In her classes, Alysia encourages photographers to embrace the weird and experiment with their personal style. Alysia describes her teaching style as “open book.” This May, she will be guiding students through photographing in a studio environment using artificial light. Her program covers everything from wardrobe selection, styling, color theory to props, and her complete workflow—from start to finish.
