In 2019, Judit Prat Martí moved from her hometown of Terrassa, Spain, to Chicago for a position in the astronomy and astrophysics department at the University of Chicago. She began exploring the city on her bike with her camera in tow.
The result is a photoseries-turned-book, “Chicago in Color” (Trope Publishing Co.), that includes images made in 32 Chicago neighborhoods. What makes the images unique is Martí’s unusual take on color: Each photo was edited in post-production to highlight a specific color or color combination in the architecture, enabling the viewer to see the design details of the city in a new way.
