Professional Photographer Honored for Excellence

PPA’s member magazine, Professional Photographer, was named the winner of three prestigious Folio Awards for 2021. In addition, the magazine earned three honorable mentions in the annual contest of publishing excellence. The awards are judged by an independent panel of media executives, who review association, nonprofit, business-to-business, and consumer magazines in dozens of categories to identify those that embody design and editorial excellence.

This year, the magazine was honored with the following:

WINNER: Best Design of a Single Issue, Oct. 2020 (PPA staff)

WINNER: Best Cover Design, Dec. 2020 (Photographer James Flachsbart, Art Director Debbie Todd)

WINNER: Best Single Article, “Generation Real,” Dec. 2020 (Photographer Renee Bowen, Associate Editor Amanda Arnold)

HONORABLE MENTION: Best Editorial Content, Full Magazine Issue, Jan. 2021 (PPA staff)

HONORABLE MENTION: Best Cover Design, Aug. 2020 (Photographer Gina Gardner, Art Director Debbie Todd)

HONORABLE MENTION: Best Profile, “Called to Listen,” June 2020 (Photographer Matilde Simas, Associate Editor Amanda Arnold)

“It’s an achievement to be named a finalist for any Folio Award, let alone to be a winner,” says PPA Director of Publications Jane Gaboury. “And it’s very nice to earn these honors from our peers. But most important, we see these awards and honorable mentions as proof of performance for our members, advertisers, and sponsors, who count on PPA to provide exceptional products and services.”

Professional Photographer has collected numerous Folio Awards over the years, a reflection of PPA’s commitment to provide its 30,000-plus members with the best products and information to address their most pressing needs.

PPA’s member magazine, which was first published in 1907 as Abel’s Photographic Weekly, has been known by a variety of names during its 114-year history. A catalog of issues dating back to 1911 is available on the PPA website.
