It’s frustrating when your phone battery doesn’t last as long as it once did, and it can disrupt your business if a deteriorating battery goes from a 60% charge to 2% in minutes. Turns out, “The Three Bears” nursery rhyme approach works best to preserve battery life: Stay away from the extremes to keep it “just right” longer.
Extreme temperatures
Temperatures higher than 104°F accelerate battery aging, and charging at temperatures lower than 32°F promotes lithium-plating on the electrode, which is hazardous for Li-ion batteries.
Heavy usage
Spending too much time on battery- draining activities like gaming or watching high-res video can age the battery faster.
Charge extremes
Charging the battery when it’s below 10% can speed battery aging, as can keeping it charging once it is at 100%.
Stay cool
If your smartphone gets hot, move it to a cool area or out of direct sunlight, turn down the brightness setting, put it in airplane mode, or turn it off. Keeping your phone from heating up in the first place also prevents accelerated aging of the battery.
Moderate charges
Charge your battery when or before it drops below 20% and take it off the charger at around 80%.
Update
Keep your phone software updated to take advantage of battery usage improvements.
