This workshop is for photographers wanting to learn more about light, lighting and using flash in photography. If you don’t thoroughly understand the various qualities and characteristics of light, this workshop is for you. If you’re a natural or constant light photographer who has avoided flash because it seemed too complicated and difficult to learn and use, this workshop is for you. If you use flash, but only in limited situations or with limited success, this class will complete your understanding and ability to use flash in any situation. Regardless of where you are with your understanding of lighting and flash, this class will take you from dipping your toes in the water to swimming in the deep end! Past attendees have said: “It was a very beneficial class and you did an excellent job of covering the basics and more.” -Nathan S., “The course was excellent – well organized, well taught.” -Elizabeth S., “Great workshop. I learned a lot about studio lighting and using TTL flash.” -Tonise M., “I had a great time and learned a lot.” -Eric W. This workshop is designed to provide valuable education, not a portfolio building opportunity. The instructor has a teaching background of 19 years as a state certified instructor. The workshop provides a solid foundation and understanding of lighting and flash photography. It provides easy to understand, yet comprehensive instruction and practice on understanding light and using lighting and flash in your photography. It demystifies the complexities of lighting and flash, builds your confidence and empowers you to overcome any apprehension, confusion or uncertainty you may have. The workshop consists of both a classroom portion and a practical portion. The classroom portion consists of instruction on: a review of exposure & camera metering, what makes flash different, determining flash exposure, the camera shutter and flash, characteristics of light & light modifiers, lighting positions, the inverse square law, divergent vs. collimated light, color temperatures, gels, lighting ratios, ways to trigger off-camera flash, and considerations for choosing flashes. The practical portion consists of hands-on/guided practice using several shooting stations designed to demonstrate, practice and reinforce the topics covered in the classroom portion. The shooting stations consist of: constant light (characteristics of light), single flash (familiarization & determining flash exposure), multiple flashes (lighting positions and ratios), flash with ambient light (indoors and outdoors), and TTL and HSS (indoors and outdoors).
