Robert J. Near, M.Photog.
Have ever admired a beautiful landscape photograph with the smooth flowing cotton candy water, well this is the workshop for you. Robert Near will share his knowledge in doing long exposure waterfall and stream cascade photography. We will be shooting at the Bash Bish Falls and Bash Bish Creek located on the border of Massachusetts and New York. We will park in the Taconic State parking lot and hike into the Bash Bish Falls, a 1/2 mile hike with a moderate uphill incline near the end. The hiking trail runs along Bash Bish Creek giving you many opportunities to shoot stream cascades and reflections along the way. Robert will go over the best shutter speeds to use, use of neutral density (ND) filters, and live ND if you have a camera that supports live ND, along with the companions that work in keeping the viewer in your image. Robert will also go over lens selection from shooting wide angles (shooting the entire falls with leading lines) to telephoto (shooting the tighter areas within the falls or stream). You should plan on bringing light snacks or lunch and water to have during the workshop. At the conclusion of the workshop, we can go to dinner in the area to get something to eat and have a recap of the day. Robert loves to shoot waterfalls and cascades in light rain conditions so he will run the workshop if there are light rain conditions and will only reschedule in the event of heavy rain conditions. I am planning on offering with workshop twice this fall to allow everyone to pick the best date that works for them. You should dress in layers and have sturdy hiking boots or shoes, water shoes are also good to have to allow you to get out in shallow areas of the stream to get the best composition.
