Michael Jason Williams
Learn the art of waterfall photography from Sacred Waterfalls author Michael Jason Williams. We will start by covering preparation techniques, including how to gear up properly (what to take and what to leave behind). Preparation also includes tuning in to what it is you are trying to accomplish and connecting with how mother nature can support your vision. We will focus on the internal state to sync up with the elements.
We will meet at my farm (Mystic Waters Farm & Gardens, Maui) and explore near-by world class waterfalls in my neighborhood (and possibly on my property if they are running). I will show you my method for accomplishing my style and help you to find your own style by connecting our prep work with what's in front of you in the moment.
I will answer any technical questions based on my experience and provide insights based on your skill level with the mindset that the teacher also learns from the student. I always learn when I'm teaching a workshop and enjoy listening/learning from you as well; art is best discussed as an exchange, not in the terms of "this is how you must do it," because everyone is different. That being said, there are composition, gear manipulation, and working actions I can share to help you "up your game."
One thing I can guarantee is that you will have fun and see some amazing waterfalls, as east Maui is full of them. It's one of the reasons I moved here and I can't wait to share it with you. If accommodations are a problem you are welcome to camp out here at the farm with me; there is plenty of room for your tent and parking.
If time and light permits, you are welcome to stay for sunset (if there is one) and shoot the Honolulunui Bay from the farm. There are usually some great flowers blooming around here as well. 😉
Course Items:I believe that the best way to learn is to be present without note-taking devices to better absorb the moment. That being said, you are welcome to take notes if you really want to because we all learn differently. Bring as many lenses as you want, but I, a sack lunch/snacks
