Come photograph scenics, people, still life, boats and more at the Mystic Seaport. Learn about composition and what makes a strong image. We will explore histograms and the ETTR (expose to the right) philosophy. Learn about image exposure optimization. We will explore extended dynamic range (EDR) and high dynamic range (HDR) in order to get the most detail out of the highlights and shadows. We will take closeup photos to isolate a subject and explore different compositions and the use of leading lines. Learn when to use negative space and when to go in tighter on a subject. We will have the opportunity for wide-angle images both inside and outside. There is a wide variety of historic subjects, still life and also people doing activities such as making barrels and blacksmithing. We can go inside some of the historic buildings and create images with good story telling properties. Tall ships are another popular subject matter at this location. Come and photograph and learn for the whole day!
Items to bring: Bring your camera and two lenses, travel light with one small backpack, as we will be walking around all day. Bring your camera manual (paper or pdf). Bring money for the entrance fee and for lunch.
