District Photo Competitions

One of the best – and most fun – ways of becoming a better photographer and improving your technique is taking part in your local district photographic competition!

Firstly, you'd need to find the district you fall under based on where you live. You're then free to enter any of PPA's photo competitions and could earn a score high enough to seal your image straight-away and make it into the famous International Print Competition (IPC). District photo competitions allow photographers to:

  • Order critiques
  • Use local entries as a way to prepare for PPA’s International Photographic Competition
  • Earn merits towards official photographic degrees with PPA

Compete Against the Best in Your Region

Taking part in photo competitions in your area allows you to compete amongst the very best local photographers. On top of challenging yourself, you'll also get the chance see how your work stacks up against other photographers and will be able to learn more about what makes a winning image.

PPA's photographic competition judging is based on the 12 Elements of a Merit Image. By learning how to incorporate them into all of your work, you are sure to produce stronger work, each time. You can even order image critiques and receive comments and observations on your images immediately after the competition. This is the best way to be more aware of areas you can still improve, or understand the subtle tweaks that could make you score higher in the competition.

And if all of that isn't incentive enough, then how about the chance to have your work displayed as part of PPA's Loan Collection? Compiled into a book each year by Marathon Press, the Loan Collection is where to find the best entries, on top of being displayed at PPA's annual convention: Imaging USA!
