Beyond the Softbox: Creative Lighting for PhotographersGreat portraits don’t happen because of expensive equipment—they happen because photographers learn to control and shape light with intention. This hands-on workshop is designed for photographers who want to move beyond basic softbox setups and create images with greater depth, mood, drama, and visual impact.Throughout the day, participants will explore a variety of light-shaping tools including beauty dishes, strip boxes, octaboxes, barn doors, grids, and snoots. We’ll demonstrate how each modifier changes the quality, direction, and character of light, then put those concepts into practice through live shooting sessions. We’ll also dive into creative techniques using colored gels, haze, fog, and Atmosphere Aerosol to add dimension, separation, and cinematic effects to portraits. Students will learn how to build intentional lighting setups, control contrast and shadow, and create images that stand out from the crowd.Whether you’re photographing executives, athletes, artists, or personal projects, you’ll leave with practical lighting skills, repeatable setups, and a deeper understanding of how to use light as a creative tool rather than simply a source of illumination. Expect live demonstrations, guided shooting opportunities, and plenty of hands-on experimentation in a fun, collaborative environment.
