This professional workshop provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and creative practice of black and white photography. Participants will explore essential concepts such as shape, form, texture, lines, tones, contrast, depth, luminosity, and composition, along with the technical and artistic considerations unique to monochrome imagery post-processing. The workshop combines a structured PowerPoint lecture with hands-on field instruction in the Urban Forest of Huntington Beach, California, where participants will apply lighting positioning techniques, develop depth and perspective, and refine compositional skills in an outdoor nature setting. Emphasis is placed on translating foundational indoor photography principles to natural environments, enabling photographers to create expressive, intimate, and abstract black and white landscape images.
