This course explores the effective use of beauty dishes across a variety of photography genres, including professional headshots and full-length portraits. Participants will gain an understanding of how beauty dishes shape and modify light, as well as best practices for assembly, care, and maintenance. The course also provides instruction on essential grip equipment—including stands, booms, clamps, and support systems—with a focus on proper setup, configuration, and installation. Special emphasis is placed on safe handling practices for grip and overhead lighting to help photographers protect themselves, their clients, and their equipment. Attendees will learn practical camera settings, lighting techniques, classic light patterns, and subject posing strategies designed to create impactful images. Hands-on exercises throughout the course provide participants with opportunities to apply these concepts in real-world scenarios. Additional topics include when and why to incorporate a beauty dish into a photographer's lighting toolkit, how different dish designs affect image characteristics, and how to select the beauty dish that best aligns with a photographer's artistic style, business goals, and shooting needs. By the end of the course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to safely and effectively integrate beauty dishes into their portrait workflow while producing consistent, professional-quality results.
