This hands-on workshop is designed for photographers who understand the basics of photography and are ready to explore creative lighting techniques that add drama, atmosphere, and visual impact to their work. Participants will learn how to create eye-catching effects using colored gels, fog, shutter dragging, motion freezing, specialized modifiers, reflective materials, and creative outdoor lighting techniques. Through live demonstrations and guided practice, photographers will discover how simple tools and intentional lighting choices can transform ordinary scenes into extraordinary images. Whether you're looking to refresh your creativity, build a more distinctive portfolio, or simply have more fun with your photography, this workshop will provide practical techniques that can be adapted to a wide variety of subjects and shooting environments. By the end of this workshop, participants will understand how to use creative lighting techniques to add drama, atmosphere, and visual interest to their portraits. They will learn how to incorporate things like colored gels, fog effects, reflective materials, shutter dragging, motion freezing, and outdoor lighting strategies to create unique and memorable images. Attendees will gain hands-on experience building creative setups, solving common lighting challenges, and developing a more intentional approach to using light as a storytelling tool. They will leave with a collection of practical techniques that can immediately be applied to elevate both their portfolio and client work. Participants should bring a camera with manual exposure controls, a portrait lens of their choice, fully charged batteries, memory cards, and a notebook or device for taking notes. A basic understanding of camera settings, including aperture, shutter speed, and ISO, is recommended to help attendees get the most out of the hands-on exercises. Participants are also welcome to bring a laptop or tablet for image review if desired. All lighting equipment, modifiers, creative effects tools, and live models will be provided during the workshop, allowing attendees to focus on learning, creating, and experimenting with new techniques.
