Creating a Marketing Plan
“Plan your work and work your plan.” A pithy saying yet words to live by, especially when you’re running your own studio!
In this course, instructors Jen Hillenga with Kate Cosentino give you a detailed process by which to do this. Rather than winging it, learn about some steps you can take to create a marketing plan that not only fits your business but will increase your business!
Just a few of the concepts you’ll discuss include:
- Planning the big picture—look at your year and determine what you want to accomplish and goals to get there.
- Identifying past successes so you know what to repeat (or what not to repeat).
- Calendar blocking your events and promotions, including product offerings and budgets for each event.
- Determining what your clients’ “experience” will be.
Jen and Kate also brainstorm cross promotional and marketing ideas, giving you a fresh, new perspective. After all, it’s always good to hear from people who’ve been there and done that!You’ll also go a bit out of the box (and out of the industry), exploring ways to give back to the community and also look outside of photography for marketing and products concepts.

After receiving a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Art and Graphic Design and working for several studios, Jen Hillenga started her own studio in 2004 with business partner, Kate Cosentino, in Savage, Minnesota. In 2008, they established an online superstore for Professional Photography products called JensFabulousStuff.com. The store has quickly become the leader in online professional products for photographers around the world.
In the years since opening Momento Images, Jen has been able to master her skills as a photographer as well as a digital artist, allowing her to turn her images into artworks and gaining her international recognition and awards among her peers. Jen focuses on the story behind each image and the internal as well as external beauty of each subject by relating to her clients with sensitivity and humor.
