About the Class

Photographing children can be like herding cats, so the last thing you want to do is mess with your lighting during a shoot! After this class, you’ll know exactly what to do so that you light your “little subjects” properly.

Instructor Dennis Craft starts with the basics: The importance of a studio setup where everything is ready, child-safe and your attention is focused on the kids. Then, he’ll walk you through the tools that make the most of your different shoots, including for his low key and high key demos (and no, we’re not talking music here). You’ll learn how to prepare for your sessions with...

  • Metering – Need to know what to do with fill light, main light and highlight? What’s a good f-stop to use? Interested in what to do with the softbox? Don’t worry – Dennis tells you how to do it all!
  • White balance: With an Expo Disc and a little know-how, Dennis will have you all set!

And through live demos, you’ll also learn light patterns and what works best for capturing those cute faces and expressions! When you’re done, you’ll know a Rembrandt from a butterfly, a loop from a split.

The end result? Everything you need to know about lighting for children so you dazzle Mom with your images of her little angels!
