PPA in D.C., Fighting for Copyright Protection

This week, PPA’s Government Affairs team is on assignment in Washington D.C. to advocate for the CASE Act in the Senate.

In October, the House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed the CASE Act 410-6, a monumental step in the 10+ year effort PPA has worked towards. This effort is long from over. The CASE Act must now be voted on in the Senate under H.R. 2426’s Senate companion bill: S.1273. PPA will continue its advocacy effort with this Congress to ensure passage of the CASE Act as we approach the finish line. It is only the support of PPA’s members like you and the Copyright Grassroots Action Team that’s gotten us within sight of this milestone.

A frequent topic of discussion in our interactions with senators and their staff is, “How many letters have we received from constituents in our state over this bill?” It is, for this reason, we cannot stress enough the importance of engaging your senators and urging them to cosponsor the CASE Act, a vital piece of legislation to protect the work of creators.

In addition to advocating for the creation of copyright small claims, PPA continues to lobby for improvements to the copyright registration process and the modernization of the US Copyright Office.  Stay tuned to PPA.com for more updates!
