PPA Announces the 2023 Board of Directors

“There are so many professions out there where you go to school, you study, and you go into that field. Despite that having been my original goal, I quickly found photography wasn’t exactly one of those fields. PPA became for me what I thought the college experience would provide me, a bridge to the professional world in the industry.” says Kira Derryberry, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, who took the position of PPA Board of Directors president March 1. “As I step into the role of President this year, I'm honored to be a guiding part of that system that leads photographers towards successful careers in the photographic trade."

Derryberry becomes the non-profit's president after having served last year as vice president. Mark Campbell, M.Photog.Cr, CPP, API, assumes the role of vice president, and Allison English Watkins, M.Photog.Cr., CPP, becomes treasurer. Past president Jeff Dachowski, M.Photog.Hon.M.Photog.Cr., CPP, takes the board’s chairman role, which rounds out the executive board positions.

The 13–member Board of Directors–all PPA members–will shape the association's vision through February 2024. You can view the entire Board of Directors here

New to the board is also Shawon Davis, a business coach, strategist, and professional photographer from Mendon, Massachusetts. Davis was humbled to be nominated and is excited to serve on the board and provide value for PPA members. “I'm thrilled to share my knowledge, experience, and expertise with the board to help carry out the organization's mission and vision.”

Diana Robles, a fine art maternity and newborn photographer from Franklin Lakes, New Jersey is also new to the board. Robles says she feels blessed at the opportunity to represent such a large body of photographers and be a voice for a community she feels so passionately about. “I’m ecstatic to work alongside the other amazing individuals on the board that share the same mindset and common goals.”

As a nonprofit, PPA's board is an essential component of the organization. It takes an active role in PPA's legal and financial responsibilities, visioning, and policy. Each member is an active professional photographer and brings a unique set of skills, talents, and experiences to their leadership role.

“As we step into 2023, I'm feeling a renewed energy and excitement from the members I've interacted with so far this year. I share this feeling and know that the year ahead is going to bring fresh ideas, new skills, and better business opportunities for our members. I'm excited to be a small part alongside my fellow board members in helping bring those resources to our community." says Derryberry.
