New York City-based fashion, portrait, and commercial photographer Jeff Rojas saw an opportunity and went for it. He noticed there were plenty of classes and workshops on how to photograph women, but men? Not so much. "Manly Pursuits" in Professional Photographer is all about how Rojas gets the best results from male subjects.
Rojas often asks his clients to send in a few snapshots of themselves prior to the shoot. This helps him discover what they like best about themselves and gives him ideas about camera angles, lighting, styling, and retouching, even before his portrait sessions take place. His less-is-more philosophy, including attention to styling, dealing with men's insecurities (hello, receding hairlines), and the difference between directing and posing, have made him internationally renowned at the age of 27.
