Are you ready for the World Photographic Cup?! This May, 30 countries are competing in the highly-anticipated international event co-founded by PPA, the World Photographic Cup. The national teams, including two-time winner Team USA, will be vying to take the cup from two-time, reigning champ Portugal. This year's list of registered countries spans from the U.S. to Pakistan, Singapore to Spain. For all things WPC including galleries of competing images, visit WorldPhotographicCup.org.
Today we'd like to shine the spotlight on a Team USA member and creator of the above image in the Nature (Landscape/Wildlife) category: Patricia Lowe.
Pat has been living in St. Augustine, Florida for the past 20 years. She has always been interested in nature and wildlife, and love of horses is her ultimate passion. Raised on a 2,000-acre working ranch on the northern California coastline, Pat experienced true appreciation of the beauty of nature and animals, both tamed and untamed. She has been known to gasp, spontaneously smile, dance around, and say YES! or just utter a wide-eyed – WOW! when finally getting the image she seeks. Her passion and appreciation for nature are demonstrated in each of her photographs with the goal to share that perfect moment and evoke that sense of awe, or WOW!
Pat travels to many exquisite venues to collect life moments that are often rarely observable, but by the capture of her lens. Each piece allows a window into an instant in the majesty of nature, capturing moments in time that captivate. From wild horses running in the mountains of Colorado to the beauty of the life and death dance of a braconid wasp and tomato hornworm, Pat’s art is in the moments. If trudging through deep snow at minus 11 degrees for hours in the Montana mountains is required, or concern over frozen fingers while shooting eagles in the Alaska wilderness, she captures these perfect moments during her own adventures, as well as for commissioned clients. Knowing her works are displayed in professional offices and homes completes the circle of sharing those moments.
Pat attended the Daytona Beach School of Photography back during the years of film, which complements her growth with technology. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Jacksonville Professional Photographers Guild (JPPG) in North Florida. The Guild awarded her Photographer of the Year for 2015 and 2017; and the State of Florida Professional Photographers (FPP) recognized many of her prints as merited, including several First Places and Best of Shows. Pat takes advantage of the Southeast District Photographic Competition (SEPPA), and is a member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) – having several prints chosen for the coveted “Loan Collection Book” – considered the best of the best. Most recently, one of Pat’s prints was selected as one of eighteen to represent the USA for the World Photographic Cup (WPC) thus she is a member of Team USA. A great honor.
CONGRATULATIONS, PAT! WE'RE SO PROUD OF YOU & THE REST OF TEAM USA!
The winner of the World Photographic Cup will be announced at the WPC Awards Ceremony in Sydney, Australia, on May 6, 2018. For more information on the World Photographic Cup, and to view the finalist images from around the world, visit WorldPhotographicCup.org.
