Dear PPA Member,
The topic of PCI compliancy may seem boring and ho-hum to you--unless you've been a victim of credit card fraud like me.
When I got a call a few years ago from Footlocker.com confirming my mailing address for a pair of $350 sneakers I had purchased, a few flags went up. One, I'd never been to Footlocker.com. Two, if you know me, you know I'd never pay $350 for a pair of sneakers (don't ask about my penchant for boots, though). Plus, the mailing address given was not anywhere near Atlanta. Hours of issuing fraud alerts, canceling credit cards and filing police reports left me with questions about how secure my credit card information really was...and what companies were doing to protect it.
Most of us use credit and debit cards on a daily basis without a second thought. This week's Vital Signs gives you information about being PCI compliant as a business, helping to protect you--and your clients--from purchasing a pair of $350 sneakers that aren't even in your size or preferred color.
Cheers!
