Super Monday Instructors: Kimberli Smith Connects with Communities to Grow

|
Smith_Kimberli_headshot.jpgKimberli Smith of Affinity Photography in Baytown, Texas, knows that a photography career needs personal connections to grow...from connections with your family to connections with your clients and community.

In fact, Smith can remember connections between herself, her family and photography as a young child.

"I remember my grandmother wanting to throw away pictures that were double-exposed, but I loved the effect that it made. I wanted to know how to make that happen, instead of how to prevent it!" Smith says of her early interest in photography.

Later in life, photographing her own children gave Smith the inspiration to open her own children photography business, which she did in 2007. "While others were documenting their children's lives with snapshots, I was taking it to the next level and critiquing my own work...waiting for the 'perfect moment' in the perfect setting," recalls Smith. "I knew [photographing children] was what I loved, and I could not see myself doing anything else. Every day is a new experience open for creativity and personal growth."

"The lighting was great, but that didn't matter as much to me as a parent," she explains about her disappointing experience and how that knowledge helps her. "Parents want to see their child's personality and remember that expression or attitude! Working with children seems to come naturally to me; I was blessed with an incredible amount of patience for them. I really do enjoy getting on their level and playing with them, but best of all, I love getting parents excited!"

On Monday, October 25th, you can join Smith at her studio in Baytown, Texas, for her Super Monday course, "Working with Your Community."
Here, she'll share different tricks and tips for connecting with another important audience: your community. You'll learn how to make your presence known and various other ways to advertise and market your business.

"Community involvement will help you in all aspects of your life--professionally and personally," says Smith. "And you aren't going to just learn how to do it; you'll learn how to do it right. By using the tools I'll give you, you'll inevitably experience growth."
