"With all the changes in the photographic industry, this is an exciting time to play a part in guiding the world's largest photographic trade association," Nichols says.
During his presidency, Nichols will act as PPA's official spokesman, representing nearly 40,000 professional photographers in PPA's allied associations and affiliated organizations. More than just a voice, he will lead the Board of Directors in setting the vision and long-term goals of the association and overseeing the association's operation. Acting as a volunteer for duties that require a significant time commitment, he will visit PPA-affiliated organizations throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Nichols is well-prepared for handling the myriad duties of the PPA presidency. After 27 years as a professional photographer and studio owner, he now has a software development and consulting company (ronnichols.com) that provides a unique outlook.
"Teaching and consulting in the U.S. and abroad give me a diverse perspective on issues facing studios," says Nichols. With this experience, industry surveys, and the Board of Directors' extensive knowledge, he plans to keep PPA in the forefront of advocacy and resources for professional photographers.
"In today's tough economic times, studios need research information, a voice in government, and access to education and technology," Nichols explains. "PPA will be there to help ensure their success."
PPA, the world's largest, non-profit association for professional photographers, exists to assist its more than 22,000 members in achieving their professional, artistic, and fraternal goals; to promote public awareness of the profession; and to advance the making of images in all of its disciplines as an art, a science, and a visual recorder of history.
