Hallmark Museum of Contemporary Photography, Turners Falls, Massachusetts, has appointed Paul R. Turnbull as its first Director.
Mr. Turnbull comes to the position with over forty-five years of background as a teacher and
administrator of photographic school and workshop programs and, as a widely exhibited fine art photographer and extensively published commercial photographer. He was also Exhibition's Director of 'Light Works', a photography gallery on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, during the 1980's.
The museum, scheduled for opening in January, 2006, will feature exhibition space for changing shows of contemporary photography from a broad range of genres, as well as building an extensive permanent collection of photography executed since 1975.
An annual grant from George J. Rosa, III, President of Hallmark Institute of Photography, with assistance from various corporate donors, will fund initial operation of the independent
museum. Upon approval of its not-for-profit 501(c)(3) application, further corporate and photo
industry support will be sought.
Paul has been charged with the responsibility of curating exhibits, building the permanent
collection and designing archives for the museum. He resides in Heath, Massachusetts and will continue to maintain his studio there, as well as continuing with his photographic
exhibition and publishing activities.
