Music headlines May 2, 2007 Copyright “Policy Day” in Washington, DC

An event focused on the critical copyright matters facing Congress, the Courts and the U.S. Copyright Office was co-sponsored by the Future of Music Coalition and the American Constitution Society for Law and Policy. “Technology and IP Policy Day” boasted approximately 160 attendees from various sectors including musicians, technologists, policymakers, attorneys and journalists among others.

The discussions’ highlights included keynotes by Congressman Mike Doyle (D-15th-PA), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Vice Chair of the Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, and David Carson, Associate Register for Policy and International Affairs for the U.S. Copyright Office. Although photography and other copyright-generating industries were not represented, it is an excellent way to shine a spotlight on the copyright and intellectual property needs of all artists.

The Future of Music Coalition is currently organizing a policy summit for fall 2007.  For more information on the May 2 event, visit
