Staying at the official Imaging USA host hotels is the best and easiest way to get the most out of your time at the convention. We encourage you to reserve a room and stay in the following host hotels:

San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter (HEADQUARTERS HOTEL)

San Antonio Marriott Riverwalk

Hilton Palacio Del Rio

Grand Hyatt San Antonio

So, what's the big deal about host hotels?

1. Host Hotels Keep Your Registration Fees Low!

By staying at the official Imaging USA host hotels, you're helping to keep registration fees down! These hotels provide complimentary meeting rooms for Imaging USA if, and only if, we meet the required minimum guest rooms in our hotel contract. Otherwise, Imaging USA must pay for meeting rooms as well as for each room we fall below the minimum--and registration fees will go up! So stay with us and save!

2. Host Hotels Provide Networking Opportunities!

By staying at the host hotels, you're at the epicenter for everything Imaging USA. Social and networking opportunities abound, and you don't even have to go anywhere to find them. They're all right there!

3. Host Hotels Save You Money on Transportation!

If you're not staying at the host hotels, chances are good you'll have to spend some money on a taxi or parking to come over for some of the events. Why bother? Stay with us and be at the center of it all!

The San Antonio Marriott Rivercenter is the official Headquarters Hotel of Imaging 2017. Hurry and register because these rooms are selling out fast! If you can get a room there, we highly encourage it as you will be closest to all the action like:

Hands-On Pre-Con Classes
Opening Party location
Charities Celebration location
Closest to the action: the San Antonio Riverwalk is right outside!

This year there is a "one stop shop" reservation system for Imaging USA hotel booking in San Antonio. Make your reservations through this new online system, as it is here to help you book your hotel rooms seamlessly.

You're all set to go to Imaging USA 2017, but you've never been to San Antonio before? Relax. Your PPA Team was just there, scouting out the best attractions and locations and preparing enough photography-convention-awesomeness to blow your ten-gallon hat off come January.

In addition to shooting a guide to the newly remodeled Convention Center (which you'll see at a later date), we took a look at some of the best San Antonio has to offer. Here's a handy guide of things to consider making time for your trip in January:

Start with The Riverwalk, the unique, can't-miss 2.5-mile walkway along the San Antonio River. Take one of the famed Riverboat Tours to see the other side of attractions like the San Antonio Museum of Art, the Arneson River Theater and the Aztec Theatre. The boats pass right by and through several restaurants, making any night out to eat a gorgeous experience. It may sound like a tourist trap, it's not! It's really nice! That's probably why the Riverwalk is Texas' second most popular tourist spot after...The Alamo/The Missions. Remember this? No trip to San Antonio would be complete without visiting the Alamo and the other four Spanish frontier outposts designated as a National Historic Park. Founded in 1939, La Villita Historic Arts Village is San Antonio's original neighborhood. La Vallita houses over 30 art galleries and shops along with several restaurants. The Arneson River Theater is also there so you can get a better look from off of the boat. The RiverCenter Mall is also located on the Riverwalk and literally right downstairs from our host hotels. It's a fully functioning mall with all the stores you may need to get your shopping fix ($6 cowboy hats, anyone?) and tons of restaurants including a food court if you want something fast and cheap! You can experience the largest Mexican mercado in the city for authentic shopping underneath all those iconic, colorful flags at Market Square. Get the best view of San Antonio from atop the 750 ft-tall Tower of the Americas, built in 1968 for the Hemisfair (World's Fair), which you'll hear a lot about because it was a huge deal for the city.

If you're looking to venture away from the downtown area by car or bus, The San Antonio Botanical Gardens, the San Antonio Aquarium and the San Antonio Zoo offer some of the most beautiful, Texas-sized flora and fauna for the entire family to enjoy. There are also the big theme parks, SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas if you have the need for speed and want to ride the state-of-the-art Iron Rattler or Steel Eel. Other kinds of thrill-seekers may want to check out the Natural Bridge Caverns, named for the 60 foot limestone slab that spans the caverns' entrance.

We weren't sure what to expect from our planning trip to San Antonio, but what we got was a beautiful city with a lively and bustling downtown area, all easily accessible from the Imaging USA hotels and convention center. We're more certain than ever that January 2017 is going to be AWESOME.

For more info, head over to ImagingUSA.org/about-san-antonio. If you haven't registered yet for Imaging USA 2017, be sure to head over to ImagingUSA.org/Register and take advantage of the Early Bird rates! And don't forget Pre-Con classes run from January 5- 7!

Can you believe Imaging USA 2016 is only 2.5 WEEKS away?! PPA Today is going to make sure you have all your i's dotted and t's crossed before your big trip and we figured now may be a good time to go over...transportation.

atlanta_cityscape2.jpg

Imaging USA 2016 will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC) in the heart of downtown Atlanta. PPA is super-excited that Imaging USA is in our hometown this year! If you've never been or it's been a while, downtown Atlanta got a face-lift. Right next to the GWCC you'll find Centennial Olympic Park and the CNN Center, the new SkyView Ferris Wheel, the World of Coca-Cola, the new College Football Hall of Fame, the new Civil Rights Museum, and of course, the amazing Georgia Aquarium...home of the 2016 Imaging USA closing party!

If you're flying to Atlanta...take MARTA (Metro Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority) from Hartsfield-Jackson airport to the GWCC, Omni or Glenn Hotels. It's only $2.50 and a straight line there!

1. Enter MARTA Airport station adjacent to baggage claim.
2. Board northbound train (Red or Gold) toward Five Points Station.
3. Get off at Five Points and follow signage to westbound train platform.
4. Board westbound train (Green or Blue) travel one stop to Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center.
5. Follow signage to street level, walk one block northwest toward Georgia World Congress Center.

If you're heading to the Hyatt Regency, Sheraton Hotel or other downtown Atlanta properties, continue on the Red or Gold line past Five Points Station, and get off at Peachtree Center. From there you'll find signage directing you to your respective hotels.

If you're driving to Atlanta...save a lot of money and pre-purchase parking for Imaging USA. That's 50% off the regular convention parking price at $10 per day - no overnight parking permitted.

1. Just click on the GWCC Online Parking Permits button here to go to the main parking permits page.
2. From there you will click on the "Purchase Event Parking Permits" button.
3. On the Select Event page, click on Georgia World Congress Center.
4. Look for Imaging USA among the January events.
5. Continue to pre-purchase a parking permit for IUSA.

If you're also staying at a hotel downtown, you will have access to everything you need for the week with just a short walk. There are also several ways to get around if you want to spend some time exploring our beautiful city or if you're staying at a hotel a little farther away.
Take Marta! It's Smarta! Go to itsmarta.com and/or check out this helpful video.

Atlanta also has Uber, Lyft and taxi services available.

Wanting to go check out more cool Atlanta spots like the Martin Luther King Center or the Sweet Auburn district? You might want to take a ride on Atlanta's new streetcar!  The streetcar will take you all the way from Centennial Olympic Park to the King Historic District, 12 stops along the way, for only $1 a ride with the quick purchase of a free Breeze card (the same card you will use to ride Marta).

No matter how you want to get around, Atlanta is ready to wow you at Imaging USA 2016

Hello everyone!

We are well aware of the situation at Opryland last Thursday and rest assured; everything is under control. First of all, no further cases of Norovirus have been reported. Second, this is not uncommon in the hospitality industry and third, the folks at Opryland are taking care of the situation.

They are working with the Metro Nashville Department of Health which applauded their fast response and disinfecting actions. According to health officials (and reported in The Tennessean), "Opryland is going above and beyond the health department's recommended cleaning and disinfecting measures to stop the spread of germs." All rooms have been aggressively sanitized. All door handles, escalator handrails and elevator controls have been wiped clean. Opryland has been cleared for guests.

We're excited for this year's Imaging USA and your record registration numbers show that you are too!
And the good news is that with everything the Gaylord has done in the past two weeks,  you now have the added comfort of staying in America's cleanest and most sanitary hotel.

Get ready for the biggest and best Imaging USA yet!

We are literally counting down the days until we get to the Gaylord Opryland for Imaging USA 2015! (As of Wednesday, November 12th - it's 80, in case you were wondering!) Here's a quick video to show you the ins and outs of the home of #ImagingUSA and give you some tips to help you make the best out of your trip.

Have any tips for newbies? Tweet them at us @ImagingUSA or post them on our Facebook page!

Sarah Ackerman is known around PPA as #Sarah in part because she handles all things social media and in order to differentiate herself from the other Sarah's in the office. Sarah loves improv comedy (think "Whose Line") and routinely performs with Witless Protection around the Atlanta area and at Dad's Garage Theatre Company. When she's not tweeting/instagramming/facebooking all of the action at PPA, she can be found gallivanting around the world or wandering around the woods with her pup, but more than likely she's on stage making people giggle.
Heading to Phoenix for Imaging USA? Let's talk about how to get around town.

If you need an easy, economical way to get from Sky Harbor Airport to downtown Phoenix, and even around the city while you're there, consider the METRO Light Rail. For just $2 a ride, you can get to within walking distance of pretty much anywhere in Phoenix.

The Phoenix Convention Center has provided this handy Transportation Guide to help you get from the airport to the convention center. Looks pretty easy, doesn't it? Also check out the Imaging USA map that gives you step-by-step information for getting from the airport to the station, to the hotels.

Also, the easy-to-navigate Valley Metro website will answer any of the questions you may have regarding locations, frequency and cost. But we can do the last--$2 a ride, no matter your destination! You can even get a $4 day pass if you plan on riding more than twice, talk about value! If that doesn't convince you, remember that the City of Phoenix controls the rates of all the parking decks in the Downtown area. When a large conference like Imaging USA comes to town, they generally increase them to $20+ per day, with no in and out privileges.

Wherever you need to go, try planning your trip on Valley Metro's website and see if the Light Rail is the best option. They offer a "Transit Trip Planner" feature, so you can map out the train schedules and getting to where you need to go.

Renting a car can be expensive, and might not even be necessary in Phoenix. Plus, trying to drive around in a new city is just a flat-out pain in the butt. Make sure you give the Light Rail consideration when looking into your transportation options. Just look at those reviews on Yelp!
Check out all of your transportation options (and hotels too) in the Imaging USA travel page.

Ride the Rail!

BONUS!
The last time Imaging USA was in Phoenix in 2009, Improv Everywhere hosted their first Light Rail No Pants Ride. Rumor has is that the 2014 version will be the Sunday of Imaging USA! So look out for casual, pantless Light Rail riders, don't be scared, and if you're brave, join in! An official announcement of the date should come in December, so we'll make sure to share it with everyone.

We're past the halfway point on the calendar to Imaging USA 2014 in Phoenix!!! Since we already showed you some of the fun Phoenix has to offer, we figured we should probably tell you where to stay, how to get there, and before you do any of that, how to register. You know--the details!

So let's dive right in.

Where Should I Stay?

Save yourself the trouble of searching for a lower rate! PPA's already done the work and negotiated discounted rates for you during Imaging USA. And we've got three options for you!

PPA's headquarters for Imaging USA 2014. Located just minutes from Sky Harbor International Airport and adjacent to the Phoenix Convention Center, this hotel is at the center of everything. This is also Phoenix's largest hotel and will place you just minutes away (walking!) from ample dining and entertainment options. Or if you're tired from so much conference activities, you can kick back on the pool deck or in their inviting lobby bar. Three blocks from the convention center, this hotel is ideally located between everything Imaging USA and the revitalized downtown Phoenix!

The Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel is an artful urban retreat, combining the comfort and convenience of a full-service business and convention hotel. It's a big hotel with a big brand name but with the soul of a boutique hotel. You're in for a treat! The Renaissance is even closer to the Convention Center than the Sheraton (1.5 blocks!), plus, it sports a rooftop pool and is within blocks of CityScape entertainment and dining district.

Location, location, location! The Hyatt is the CLOSEST of the three hotels. You can walk from all three, but this one is about 50 steps from the convention center. You just can't beat that! Like the other hotels, it has an outdoor pool, but where the Hyatt really stands out is up top, in the Compass Arizona Grill. This rotating restaurant will give you an unparalleled 360-degree view of Phoenix. Pretty cool!

We have a block of rooms already booked at each of these three hotels to guarantee you the Imaging USA discounted rates, so be sure you tell the hotel you're part of Imaging USA to get these great rates! Plus, most everyone prefers to be where the action is, right?! By staying at the Imaging USA hotels, you'll save money, have an incredibly short walk to the conference, and best of all, you'll have a better opportunity to network with your photography friends and remain at the center of all of the activities. That's why you're going to Phoenix after all, isn't it?

Besides, even if you find a cheaper hotel option, when you factor in time and travel fees associated with staying further away (let's not even get started on parking fees!), you won't benefit as much financially as you had planned. So why miss out on the action? Imaging USA is truly made and organized for you. PPA is not making anything on hotels. Instead, savings are passed directly on to you. So make the best of this experience and stay at a host hotel!

How Should I Get There?

All Imaging USA hotels are located within 0.25 to 3 blocks of the Phoenix Convention Center and convenient to several Valley Metro Light Rail stops. You can take the light rail from the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport to downtown Phoenix (approximately 4 miles) for just $2.00. If you're driving in, there are several city parking garages in the area as well (but remember, those garages are run by the city and they can adjust prices as they please).

Flying to Imaging USA
The Phoenix Convention Center is located just 4 miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and several transportation options are available. The Convention Center has provided a Transportation Guide for getting to and from the airport via Phoenix's METRO light rail. However, other options are available.

Taxi, Limousine & Shuttle Service
Taxi rates remain the same regardless of company, number of passengers and number of bags. The first mile is $5. Each additional mile is $2.30. Each hour of a traffic delay is $23. The minimum fare is $15. Each per trip airport surcharge is $1.
Limousine rates to the Convention Center are $35.

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport also runs a shuttle service. The shuttle is $14 for the first passenger. Each additional passenger per reservation is $7.00 regardless of zone.

Visit the Imaging USA Hotel & Travel page for more taxi, limousine and shuttle service information.

Rental Cars
Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport offers service from 12 rental car agencies which are housed in their own building. A shuttle runs from the curb of each terminal's baggage claim area every 5-10 minutes. Check with each company for rates. Find more information on the Imaging USA Hotel & Travel Page.

Public Transit
As outlined in the Phoenix Convention Center Transportation Guide, using public transit is an easy and inexpensive way to travel to and from the airport. A full-trip from the airport to the Convention Center takes roughly 43 minutes and costs a whopping $2.00. It's only four miles, so it's not super fast, but you can't beat that price! For more information, visit http://www.valleymetro.org/

Driving to Imaging USA
If you're driving to Imaging USA, download the Convention Center's driving directions as well as a map and parking guide.
