Katrina Relief Fund Through PPA Charites

Professional Photographers of America is shocked and saddened by the devastation that has occurred as a result of Hurricane Katrina. It will be some time before an accurate picture emerges of just how horrible the loss really is. Certainly, our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been affected in any way.

Over its 125 years, PPA members have proven time and time again their concern for others. We know you, like all of us, have been watching your televisions, perhaps wondering what you can do to help. PPA is doing what it can to monitor the situation, and to try to track our members in the affected areas. If you have any information, we urge you to post it on the Hurricane Katrina Forum on OurPPA.com so that those who are willing and able to help can do so.

Many of you will want to help by contributing time or money. Typically, PPA is not set up to receive and distribute contributions. However, because of the magnitude of the Hurricane Katrina destruction, the Board of Directors has approved the establishment of a disaster relief fund to which members can contribute if they so desire. Here’s how the fund will work.

1. You may contribute by sending a check payable to PPA Charities. Make sure you put “Disaster Relief” on the check. Please do not send this check with dues payments. Unfortunately, we cannot accept credit card payments for this project.
2. Send the check to:

3. PPA will disburse the money collected each month to Hurricane Katrina disaster relief agencies based on need. Typically, the needs immediately after a disaster are different from those a month or more after the disaster. Unfortunately, it is likely that there will be significant need for months to come.
4. Money collected will be distributed only to registered disaster relief agencies. We are unable to make disbursements to individual photographers. However, we encourage PPA members to follow their long standing tradition of helping their fellow photographers in need. 5. Your cancelled check will serve as your donation receipt.
