The Copyright Office has announced a change in the rules governing the termination of transfers and licenses under sections 203 and 304 of the Copyright Act. When delivered by first class mail, notification of the termination of a license or transfer will now be considered served on the day it is mailed, rather than the day it is received. This clarification should add certainty to the efforts of those authors and heirs who are attempting to comply with the technical requirements of these special termination rules.
