PPA members could potentially save thousands with new benefit
ATLANTA, Ga. – Professional Photographers of America (PPA) announced today a partnership with Bank of America Merchant Services to bring PPA photographers significantly discounted rates on credit card processing.
The new member benefit will assist photographers who process mobile transactions, sell prints online or accept credit card payments at their studio. According to PPA, it could lead to huge savings.
"For a year, we searched to find our members the best service and boy we sure found it," said Kirsten Hartman, PPA director of member value and experience. "We think our members will be thrilled with the savings, the improved customer service and the comfort of having the Bank of America name behind them. This is one of our largest benefits in the sense that it will immediately help photographers become more profitable, without having to work more or change much in their operating system."
Having recently made the switch themselves, PPA is now using Bank of America Merchant Services to process thousands of transactions per month. Because PPA, the world's largest photography association, processes at such a high volume, it is able to offer the same low rate to all of its more than 27,000 members.
The partnership offers large potential savings because of a highly competitive interchange fee, or swipe fee. These are the fees merchants pay to the bank when they accept a payment via credit card. With Bank of America’s exclusive PPA merchant services pricing, the interchange rate for PPA photographers will be .07 percent, which is often times 10-12 times lower than other merchants' fees.
Two PPA photographers submitted one month of their credit card processing statements with another service provider to compare with Bank of America's rate. In Bank of America's pricing model, the first member paid a converted interchange rate of 0.73 percent. With the special PPA discounted rate of 0.07 percent, Bank of America's pricing represented a $2,500 annual savings. The second photographer would have saved $3,000.
These discounted rates are exclusive to PPA photographers. For more about the new Bank of America’s Merchant Services, visit PPA's yearlong discounts page. Join PPA at PPA.com/join.
