Lighting is one of the most important elements of portrait photography. In the studio, the photographer has the ability to exercise complete control of the lighting. Once you step outdoors, the situation changes considerably. There are elements of the lighting scenario which the photographer cannot control. That is the point where additional light sources must be added to give you the look you want, and deliver high quality results to your client. The question is, what light sources, how much light, where do you place it, how do you balance it with your existing light scenario. This workshop will give you hands on practice with portrait lighting outdoors. We start with selecting the optimum settings for your session. We'll teach you to identify those situations where the beautiful location does not provide beautiful light to capture your subject. You'll get to experiment with different types of "helper" lighting equipment, and develop the techniques that will give you outstanding results. You'll get to work with challenging locations, and a variety of lighting tools that can be used simply, and without a lot of expense. At the end of the day, we'll recap the days events and review the results of the days sessions, and recommend post-production options (time permitting).Students should be familiar with their camera's operating menus and controls, and be well versed in using their camera in Manual mode.
