Frequently Asked Questions for Instructors

What is Super Monday?

Super Monday is a one-day educational event that builds the photographic and business skills of professional photographers or those who are considering the profession. Classes are taught by professional photographers who host seminars in their studios (or other locations), with the proceeds going to support PPA educational projects. These one-day classes focus on sharing knowledge on a variety of topics ranging from lighting, posing and imaging, to business, marketing and sales.

How does Super Monday work?

Classes are expected to be formulated with the following criteria:

  1. Maximum of two instructors are allowed to teach one class. Instructors determine the topic, format and class size.
  2. When planning your class content, please keep in mind that these classes are considered full-day classes (at least 6.5 hours of instruction). This is so merits can be awarded to both attendees and instructors.
  3. Class hours are to be held between the hours of 9:00am to 5:00pm. (If this will not work for your schedule, please request pre-approval for a different time slot from the PPA Education Department.)
  4. The class date is held on the published Super Monday date, May 14, 2012. (NOTE: Do not book event venues until you have approval from the PPA Education Department!)Other dates must be pre-approved by PPA.

PPA will handle all aspects of Super Monday registration and follow-up. For instance, we send confirmation e-mails with class information to all pre-registered attendees. We also provide Class Packets the week before class via email, including a class list, student evaluation forms, instructor evaluation forms, on-site registration material and merit request forms.

How do I apply to be a Super Monday Instructor?

Your Instructor Registration Form, completed in full, must be received no later than the deadline: February 29, 2012. Before filling out the form, please gather these items in advance:

  1. Your course title and description.
  2. A brief bio, including relevant background and credentials.
  3. Information on items attendees would need to bring to get the most out of your class.
  4. Where the class would be located.

What happens after I register to teach a class?

PPA will e-mail you an Instructor Confirmation Letter with the Super Monday schedule. You should receive this letter a week after February 29, 2012 upon the receipt of all applications.

Do instructors receive compensation for teaching a class?

Besides the experience and new networks you’ll gain from speaking, you can earn two speaking merits toward a PPA degree. In addition, Photographic Craftsman volunteers will receive $50 per student after the 7th paid attendee.

Do PPA members receive merits for instructing or attending a class?

Yes, attendees will receive one merit for attending a full-day class (at least 6.5 hours). Merit points will be entered on your record. Instructors receive two merits for teaching a full-day class. At the minimum a 6.5 hour class is required to receive any credits.

Can anyone attend my class, or do they have to be a PPA member?

Students do not have to be a PPA member to attend a Super Monday class, but merits will only be given to PPA members.

What if students have a question about my class?

Students will be encouraged to contact you directly. Your phone and e-mail contact information is included with the class descriptions posted on the Super Monday page of PPA.com at http://www.ppa.com/education-events/sm_new.php.

Who can be a Super Monday Instructor?

Any professional photographer who is a PPA member is welcome to participate.

How many Super Monday classes can an individual instructor teach?

An instructor is allowed to teach two Super Monday classes with pre-approval from the PPA Education Department. There must be a confirmation from PPA regarding the topics.

Do I have to provide lunch for my class, or will PPA reimburse me for lunch expenses?

No, it is not a requirement for instructors to provide meals or snacks for the class, and PPA will not reimburse for food expenditures.  However, a suggestion would be to notify your students of meal options: to bring with them a brown bag lunch or lunch money.

How are Super Monday classes promoted?

It is a collaborative effort between PPA and our instructors. PPA will promote Super Monday programs in Professional Photographer magazine and on www.ppa.com as well as various e-mails to our members and prospects.

We encourage instructors to help promote their Super Monday class within the community by sending press releases to local media and affiliate newsletters.  Social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and personal blogs are also great ways to spread the word.
