Posing Toddlers 1-3 Years Old

Photographing children can be chaos…and at the end, everyone’s exhausted. Yet in this class, instructor Dennis Craft shares how to direct that chaos as much as possible for a successful toddler session that makes everyone (not just your subject) smile.

The first thing you’ll learn is the importance of planning. Time is of the essence during the session, so learn how to nail down certain facts from a client pre-consultation—from wardrobe to props to exactly what mom is looking for in these images (and what you need from her during the shoot).

Next, you’ll watch Dennis conduct an actual session. You’ll discover how acting silly, some reverse psychology, conversation and props make or break the session! Plus, you’ll get to review the images to see what worked and why. Dennis even photographs a second toddler, showing how and why each child and session is different.

So are you ready for the chaos—and utter cuteness—that comes with photographing toddlers? With this class, your images can only improve!

We value your feedback and want to know how we can improve. Please share your thoughts about the class here.

Dennis Craft runs a successful portrait studio in the historic town of Marshall, MI. His work includes many photographic areas, but he is best known for his imaginative children's photography. Craft Photography opened in 1979 in a storefront in downtown Marshall. Since 1999, the studio has been outside the city on thirteen acres that serve as a perfect backdrop for their fanciful child portraiture.

A Michigan Top-Ten Photographer twelve times, Dennis enjoys working in a natural light situation (window light and environmental portraits are his specialties). Twelve of his merit prints have been selected into the International Loan Collection, three exhibited at Walt Disney World’s Epcot Center, and one was on display in the International Photography Hall of Fame. Craft was named Photographer of the Year in Michigan (1992 & 1996). He’s also earned his PPA Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman degrees and the Fellowship Degree from the American Society of Photographers. In addition, he is a past president of PPA.

Dennis has spoken in many places over the years, including national, state, and regional conventions and numerous local affiliate events. This doesn’t even include all the photography schools he’s taught at, like Winona International School of Photography, West Coast School, MAIPP Professional Photography School, Mid-Atlantic Regional School of Photography, Texas School, and Georgia School! Students from all over the country have enjoyed his unique teaching style and his practical solutions and ideas for developing and improving their own photographic style.
