HDR (high dynamic range) Photography at Eastern State Penitentiary
Register on location, space permitting (contact instructor)

Course #PA01
Lisa Cuchara

What do exploring the Eastern State Penitentiary, photographing using a tripod, and learning about long exposures (and how to make people disappear) have in common? YOU! Join instructor Lisa Cuchara and learnhow to capture high dynamic range (HDR) images. The prison has extreme dynamic range with drastic dark areas and bright skylights and windows which only further proves thatHDR is about creating awesome images from scenes with high dynamic range. However, even with today's cameras and the awesome RAW post-processing capabilities of ACR (Adobe camera RAW), certain scenes will still yield flat detail-less shadows and blown-out highlights, even with perfect exposure. Some scenes require 3-14 exposures in order to capture the full dynamic range of the shadows and highlights. At a constant aperture different exposures are taken (shutter speed is changed) in order to capture the full range and details of the shadows, mid-tones and highlights. And we will be exploring prion while learning HDR. This class will additionally demonstrate how to to capture panoramic images and even combine the two together to create panoramic high dynamic range (HDR) images.
