Creating the Mood - A course in Shallow Depth of Field Portraits
Register on location, space permitting (contact instructor)

Course #MD03
Kelly Schneider,
Cr.Photog., CPP.

This hands-on course will cover all the aspects of taking very shallow Depth of Field portraits that result in very moody and dramatic images.   The human "sees" an image in ways that can be measured and tracked. We know that the area of an image with the most light usually is the first thing we look for, but color, movement, and focus is also very strong factors that pull our attention.   As photographers, the better we are at aligning these factors so that the results are a very stimulating image that is directed at an unquestionable subject, the more intense, dramatic and usually more successful the image is.

This class will start with a lesson on DOF and how this invisible "plane" of sharpness can be applied different ways using camera angle, subject pose, shooter position and artistic intent.  Additionally, this class will discuss and work the camera settings, lighting, posing and framing and create both inside and outside portraits that follow the look and feel of the old masters.
