CPP Exam Registration

Candidates and CPPs who are up for renewal have the option to take the exam in-person or online. Please read the information below to determine the best option for you!

Take the Exam In person: Register Here.

  • You must register for the exam at least five business days prior to the date on which you wish to take the written examination. If you fail to register you will not be able to take the exam. Photo identification will be required upon arrival at the testing site.
  • If there are no exams in your area or you are unable to attend one of the scheduled exams, you may reach out to a CPP Liaison to coordinate an exam for you.
  • There is no fee associated with taking the exam in-person.
  • Scores will be released via email approximately 2-3 weeks after the exam.

Take the Exam Online: Register Here

  • The online exam is hosted by a live remote proctor via Proctor U. You will need to create an account on the Proctor U website to schedule an exam.
  • Candidates can schedule to take the exam online in as soon as 72 hours (3 days).
  • There is a $25 fee associated with taking the exam paid to Proctor U.
  • A webcam is required to take the exam online. (note: the preferred web browser is Google Chrome)
  • Please be sure to declare your candidacy prior to scheduling your CPP Exam. If you do not declare your candidacy BEFORE scheduling the exam, you may not have access to the online test.
  • Scores will be released via email approximately 5-7 business days after the exam.

Test Specifications

The CPP Test Specifications are a great resource to use when preparing for your CPP Exam. The CPP Test Specs outline each of the topics covered on the exam, including the percentage of questions per topic.

If you know you are weak in a certain section, whether it's Lighting or Composition & Design, you can review the test specs to see how heavily weighted that section will be on the exam. To take it a step further, if you know you need further review on a specific subject, you can cross reference our Suggested Reading List to brush up on certain topic
