    Default Need Opinions

    Hi Everyone, I've been reading the posts and would like some opinions on these images for possible competition. They are heavily retouched using Painter. I have not titled them yet.

    yikes, the quality is really bad. You will not be able to see the brush strokes. Do Painter images do well?

    Hi Kelly,

    Any "well done" image does well, either as a straight photograph or enhanced. The key to doing well in competition with Painter is by having an underlying image that has the 12 elements going for it. Just because you spend 10 hours enhancing an image does not automatically add points to the score. The judges don't look at an image and reward attempt, they reward execution.

    With that said it's kind of difficult to see your images at the size you've posted them. Can you post them bigger?

    Kelly,

    Take a look at this thread for a very well done Painter image...

    Also, check out Cheri's website to see some beautifully done Painter images (and inspiration!)...

    Default Presentation ... and size ...

    Hi Kelly;

    Don is correct. An image worked in Painter will 1st need to meet a number of the Dirty Dozen elements.

    I see that your images do not conform to competition size. Even small, like you are showing, they still should be proportional with 16X20 or 20X16. Yours are too narrow on one side to be proportional with competition size. Only a Master of Photography can enter other sizes.

    Your image on the left would not score well. It is too ordinary and has no impact. Enter it anyhow so you can hear a critique which will help you grow as an artist.

    The image on the right is much more dynamic. I am posting how I would present it. I made it a horizontal and made it proportional with 20x16. i hope this helps you see possiblities.

    Thanks, all of your comments really help. When you work on a project sometimes you are just too close to it to see if it truly has merit or not. The girls are my two daughters and I am told that its a bad idea to enter images of your own children

    I am aware of the size rule, just wanted input on the images themselves first.
