Default Things to do and see in Atlanta

Here's a partial list of things to do, see, and places to eat while in Atlanta...

    1. Mary Mac's Tea Room - Great southern food, and a back rub by Ms. Linda, if you are lucky. http://www.marymacs.com/
    2. Krispy Kreme on Ponce De Leon, right down from Mary Mac's. http://www.krispykreme.com/home
    3. The Varsity http://www.thevarsity.com/
    4. Stone Mountain Park, about 30 minutes east of Atlanta. Has a great laser show at dusk. http://www.stonemountainpark.com/
    5. World of Coke Museum http://www.worldofcoca-cola.com/
    6. CNN tour http://www.cnn.com/tour/
    7. Georgia Aquarium http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/
    8. Cyclorama Civil War Museum http://www.atlantacyclorama.org/

Once you do those things, you have tasted the South.

    Then...

    9. The High Museum http://www.high.org
    10. Atlanta Botanical Gardens http://www.atlantabotanicalgarden.org/
    11. Six Flags, if you have family coming with you, or are taking an extra day. http://www.sixflags.com/overgeorgia/index.aspx

I'll think of more and add them.

piedmont park as well depending on how cold/warm it is that day, great place to let kids run around and what have you. i would also say atlantic station if your up for some dinning and shopping. Possibly little 5 points if you are down for some eclectic things.

A side trip to the Blue Willow Inn, about 45 minutes east of Atlanta will satisfy that, and you can say you have had the best on the planet.

Thanks for the tips Mark, having your local input is a great resource for us out of towers. I have been to Atlanta once, but that was a while ago. I know the standard rules of big city survival apply, but do you have any advice about getting around and places to avoid?

My vote is for the outrageous hamburgers at the Vortex in midtown. For BBQ, I recently discovered Fat Matt's.

Oh! Best way to get to the convention from the Airport is Marta. Wish the SF Bay Area Rapid transit was this cheap.

If your business depends on you, you don't own a business-you have a job. And it's the worst job in the world because you're working for a lunatic... You can't close it when you want to, because if it's closed you don't get paid. You can't leave it when you want to, because if you leave there's nobody there to do the work. You can't sell it when you want to, because who wants to buy a job?

That beats paying $25 for a shuttle, good tip. I was wondering about MARTA and if it was a good way to travel from outlying hotels to the convention center. The MARTA route goes by the hotel I am possibly staying, but I didn't know if it was safe to ride at night.

The MARTA has a station that is in the basement of the PPA headquarters building. I've been told that the convention center is not far from PPA HQ.

Fat Matt's has some of the best local blues, too. The Vortex is the best burger around, except for a little place here in Fayetteville.
