I just took a look at the Professional Photographic Certification Commission home page (http://certifiedphotographer.com/i4a/pages/index.cfm?pageid=1). After some prodding of PPA, I see the Commision page has been updated by adding the fourth paragraph as follows:

As the leading certifying agency for imaging professionals, the Professional Photographic Certification program is recognized throughout the industry. When you see a photographer displaying the the Certified Professional Photographer seal, you can be sure that he or she is among the less than 3% of all imaging professionals who have successfully completed and maintained our requirements.

Those who have earned the Professional Photographic Certification have passed a comprehensive written exam measuring their technical expertise, and have successfully submitted their work to a panel of judges for review and approval.

It is also possible to earn specialty endorsements for your certification. This allows the photographer to market themselves as a “Certified Portrait Photographer” or other specialty within photography. To learn more about the specialty endorsement please download the Specialty Endorsement Application.

Every five years, a Certified photographer must renew his or her credentials by participating in continuing education programs and periodically submitting work for critical evaluation. This helps assure you that certified photographers maintain their level of expertise and continue to develop new skills and techniques.
The way I read the text from the home page, the text is written for the consumer but the new 4th paragraph is directed at photographers. Thus it seems out of place. Is it just me or does this seem like a strange placement to you too?

It doesn't seem out of place at all to me, simply let's the consumer know that the certification process is an 'ongoing' program and not a 'one time' thing.

Your right, it does seem out of place. A consumer isn't going to want to download the Specialty Endorsement Application but the rest of it is directed toward consumers. By the way, are CPPs allowed to use this in their marketing?

Hi Howard;

They simply need to change a few words. There's nothing wrong with letting the public know about specialty endorsements but it should be written in such a way as to be talking to the general public in that context. Then, in an area for photographers to click, it could be written as speaking to photographers.

Either Al Hopper or David Mithofer would be the ones to talk to.
