I am interested in submitting an album into competition this year for the first time.
Question: What are judges looking for? In it the total package? Are they looking for storytelling, are they expecting each of the images to be merit prints?
There is a lot of talk about the 12 things that they look for in a single print but are those the same things they are looking for in an album?
Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I haven't entered an album (actually this year's regional is my first print comp) -- but from what I understand....they are looking for storytelling, the total package....and expect a consistent good quality with a number of images in the album being merit-worthy.
Patrick Rice's "Sucess in Print Competition (http://www.amazon.com/Success-Print-Competition-Professional-Photographers/dp/1584280964)" is a book that I have found helpful -- there is a section on competition albums in there as well -- you might check it out :)

Hi Nylora;
In our state competition, the albums that get a blue ribbon (80+) are "knock their socks off" good ! Each image better be of 80+ quality. Lighting is usually double-lighting. The album itself better be an excellent line of albums too.

no problem! I thought the book was pretty helpful, ....and reading it definitely answered some of my questions about print (and album) competition. It was worth the $20 (used) for me...
let us know how it goes!
