I appreciate all the suggestions from my last post. So here goes again, the title of this image is Tatonka Ridge.
Thanks
Rick

I'd have cropped it to get a little more foreground, to bring the subject line onto the lower third.

Hi Rick;

Here is my take on it. I hope it gives you some ideas on presentation.

Rick It is very hard to tell with this size file. If all is as I hope it is this should merit. My concerns are; are the buffalo really there or is the insertion very well done (no rim lines etc.)? Is there detail in the buffalo? Is the light area in the sky holding detail or does it show color crossover or blowout? Is there more image area to the bottom and right sides at least and maybe a bit more to left and top? When you posted the image it did not fit the 16x20 proportion. Is that because you are a master or had you not considered the presentation size for non masters? I took the liberity of working the image a bit. I streached the image to the right and bottom to bring the buffalo into the lower third. I then streached the top - not sure it needed it, I would have to see the orginal file. I dodged (highlights) detail in the sky and two ridge snow lines. This helps build a triangle composition and lessen the feeling of 2 centers of intrest (buffalo and the tree). I choose a background mat selected from the buffalo with a stroke from the sky. I felt that in this case breaking the rules a bit with these presentation choices made the buffalo even more dominate and pulled out the ridge line more. Obviously you can not do this much image transformation unless you have a excellant file. I did this hoping that the orginal file would have room around it to just increase the area around the image. After viewing my sample in the preview post I feel I streached to the top too much.... so ah.. use your imagination there is a bit less sky at the top, ah ya thats it.

I look at images on here and with out seeing the real print and print quality I can not say for sure where I would score it but I feel it is deserving of merit.

Keith,
Thanks for the suggestions. The print does hold in the highlight area. The buffalo does lose a little in the dark areas. I do have my master degree, that is why I donot worry about the 16x20 format.

I did judge with you and Holly at Colorado a few years ago.

Hi Richard;

Since you're a Master, I think a slim-line presentation would work well. The version I posted was when I didn't know it.
