The initial list of Dallas mentors :

12-22-2011, 05:06 PM
Just wanted to share a story from today on the power of building a strong foundation ...a studio personality over time that people can believe in and not rely on one hit marketing campaigns that imply you only want business and not concerned about the client..

We just had a mom,dad and newborn come in , great family. Went nuts and had a blast. Mom told Victoria the reason they came to us is that 8 years ago we did a free yearbook headshot of her because they could not afford a package at the time. Now they could and they always wanted to re pay that kindness. We ended up creating a $1600 newborn package for them. And they came in on a Gift 14 inch invite from the birthing department we are a part of...

Giving does return....Happiness to the moments..

01-14-2012, 02:47 AM
As client expectations evolve you will see in the next few years a complete over saturation of people pointing and shooting outside with all of the work looking the same. We have already seen a new demand in well lit images with great composition. AD has the fundamental tract for everyone who does not have a firm grasp of how to control the quality and Quantity of light. Don Chick is one of the best educators of fundamentals in the country. more of Don.s work is at http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=375

01-14-2012, 02:27 PM
If it is creative inspiration for high school seniors you are looking for, Ben Shirk is creating the work that blows seniors away. With his style and post production skills he has created demand for his skills from the community he lives. http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=271

Over a decade ago I was fortunate enough to meet Vicki Taufer ... Vicki was a kid with a camera then.....and today nothing has changed....except the international recognition of being one of the most recognized photographers in the country/world. Excited to have her come and play in dallas. See Vicki's work at: http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=5675

Neil Van Niekerk received as much positive feedback as any mentor we had in Charlotte last year. Neil shares his knowledge on a level that you will understand and be able to incorporate into your system with minimal effort. We are very happy to have Neil in Dallas with us http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=2484http%...%2F%3Fp%3D2484

01-17-2012, 02:53 PM
When a mentor is at AD for the first time we are excited as they are. Leslie Spurlock is no exception. She creates beautiful images that inspire and move you and we are fortunate to have her in Dallas. Her work is at: http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=5749 . YOu can still register for $72 of using the code : " ADE72" at https://secure1.marathonpress.com/afterdarkedu.com/all/register/71 . we are looking forward to a great experience. Come hang out.....

01-18-2012, 12:18 AM
Mike Ridinger has been with AD from day one and helped make the AD experience what it is today. Mike is one of the few people I know that can go from telling an "interesting " story about he and his biker buddies to explaining the beauty of intricate light control when trying to capture the perfect emotion of a mother holding a newborn. The moment Mike shows at AD he is constantly on searching for people to help...Eplaining light theory in ways everyone can understand. It makes me happy he comes to hang out ....http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=568

01-18-2012, 04:23 PM
‎Beth Forester has become an important part of the AD team. Her advice is: “If you’re not moving forward, you’re getting left behind.” If you’re thinking about coming to another After Dark Event remember, there is only so much information one head can absorb in three days! Lol! There is no way to see everything and everyone in one event! If you’ve never been to After Dark before remember, make a list of the five things you feel like would most help you in your business, then make a list of the 5 things you most want to learn at AD. http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=3625

01-20-2012, 03:43 AM
Chuck Arlund....Hmmm..The Chuckie Arlund Ad experience... I do not think Chuckie sleeps...It is non stop and beyond a mere mortal. Chuckie is the only mentor I have ever know to get so excited, he lost his entire group....and then the group did find him....Need personal security at 3am in the french quarter......and just share non stop, constantly searching more new ways to share what is generated in his mind... a mind that he has never hesitated to push to all extremes...http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=237

01-21-2012, 05:45 AM
Travis Gadsby thoughts on AD: “There have been so many great AD moments. My favorite have been the impromptu, late night sessions with Kevin Jairaj, George Kuchler, Jen, and Chuck Arlund. The creative energy at After Dark is extreme in the first place, but to watch these guys get thrown into unplanned and unpredictable scenarios is a thing of beauty. You really get to see the problem solving approach and the creative process if you are willing to stay awake and alert to what is happening around you. ‘Continually reinvent yourself. Never be satisfied with mediocrity and seek knowledge until the day you die.’ ” http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=3649

01-22-2012, 04:28 PM
Jason Groupp is from NYC, but I live in NJ. Exit 135. I studied fashion photography at the Fashion Institute of Technology, in NYC. It was hard. I have been shooting weddings for 23 years. I think I’m pretty good at it. It’s still hard. Doing what I love, and following my dreams has been the easiest thing I’ve ever done. Check out all of the Dallas AD mentors at http://afterdarkedu.com/?page_id=5505 . YOu can still receive $72 of using " ADE72" @ https://secure1.marathonpress.com/afterdarkedu.com/all/register/71

01-23-2012, 01:19 AM
Dallas you wil be able to hang with Lindsay Adler....Lindsay think's if you’re thinking about coming to another After Dark Event, remember each After Dark is a unique experience. There are different classes, different mentors, and just different learning experiences available at each. If you’ve never been to After Dark Before, get to know the photographers coming to After Dark, and figure out who’s work inspires you most. On the first day, try to see a variety of presenters and figure out which have a teaching style you learn best from. ‘Spend your life doing what you love most. Focus your efforts on making those sweetest moments take up as much time as possible.’ Lindsay's AD profile - http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=96

01-23-2012, 03:33 PM
As an artist, Damon revels in breaking the rules. He firmly believes that if you don’t enjoy what you do, then you should do something else.
Damon’s non-traditional method of blending fashion with documentation is revolutionizing the wedding industry. Today’s modern couples don’t want to spend precious hours on formal poses; they want to enjoy their day with family and friends. Study Damon and the other Dallas Mentors - http://afterdarkedu.com/?page_id=5505

Susan and Neil Silverman. a husband and wife team who teach and lead photo workshops throughout the country— capturing the prisms of the world as they travel. Their photos are offered through several stock agencies and have been published on the cover of Outdoor Photography, Cure, der Speigel, Sierra Club, Nikon, Elle, Sierra Club, etc. With their cameras they are known for creating and capturing an image that pulls them off the path of the expected and on to the journey of the exhilarating and exciting. AD Dallas Mentor - http://afterdarkedu.com/?page_id=5505

01-24-2012, 04:06 PM
Amy Parrish will again be joining AD in Dallas. Amy’s journey as a photographer has taken many forms. She started out several years ago working for a high-volume retail portrait studio, and later opened her own, small, on-location portrait business in 2005 while also moonlighting as a freelance video editor. In 2008 Amy’s husband, Ryan, joined the business full time and they moved their portrait business into an urban studio space near downtown Columbus, Ohio where they primarily focused on photographing children and families. More about Amy - http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=4645

“I am Matt Lucas. I am a photographer and teacher but also a dad, a husband, a lover of college football and basketball. I like the beach, camping and baseball. I am a student of my customers and learn by listening to others. ‘Get to know people, ask questions and learn from each other.’ “ http://afterdarkedu.com/?p=4925

Just a note that the intial version of the grid is done and we should have it out in PDF form Friday afternoon. At this point we have 138 classes not counting the spontaneous classes that happen after 10pm.

AD Dallas will have more mentors working together than ever before. Ad has the environment that has encouraged the menotrs to teach together for a better understanding of different solutions that both work. Leslie and Jason comparing flash vs. natural light, Kevin and Kevin one style of posing vs another, Lindsay, Chuck and Kevin comparing and contrasting lighting styles, Kevin and Brian just playing with light to see what they can find and more....

We also want to welcome Sandy Puc', bringing her marketing and sales skills
and Michael Corsentino sharing his vision of lifestyle photography
to the line up of mentors for AD Dallas.

The " ADE72" code will still get you $72 off the AD Dallas registration.

Also, Get your rooms booked for Dallas. Feb 10 is the deadline for the room block rate of $109.

01-26-2012, 07:25 PM
Last night I was reminded once again why I do what I do. Last evening I had the Privilege to capture images of Jayla and her family almost to midnight. We laughed...and cried....and made a difficult time a bit easier for everyone involved. We need to remember the gifts we have and the power of what our passion can give to others....Not just to those who want the images we can create...but also those who need the experiences that we can provide. If you have not checked out Nilmdts...please do... http://www.nowilaymedowntosleep.org/ .and if not this organization...find one you can share part of you with.

01-27-2012, 04:50 PM
Kevin Focht has become an AD favorite. "Photography is not something I do, it is who I am. I know that may sound dramatic, but it is true. When I don’t shoot for a while, I get really crabby. I love my job and can’t think of anything I would rather do. Well except for maybe being a Rockstar Stylistically, I am all about beauty and amazing light. Whether it is daylight, lighting I have created, or some overhead light in a random hallway, I am all about beautiful light. It really is what makes a great photograph for me."

01-27-2012, 11:11 PM

01-28-2012, 01:37 PM
TO get the most out of it you really need to prepare...If you know what it is you want to learn you can be guided to the mentors that can best help. Pick 7 things you need to work on and then ranked them. Start with the most important and find classes/ mentors and then move to the next. Once you are at AD be open. Be ready to accept new thought. YOu do not have to incorporate the them, just be open to thinking about them....because the next idea may give you a concept to build off of the last that is completely different. A warning. Many people think they need to learn specific things...After the first day many photographers make a completely new list because they have been exposed to thoughts and ideas they had never imagined.....prepare...

01-28-2012, 01:55 PM
Terri Trawick will be sharing for the first time in AD Dallas- She Believes

AD Dallas.....Tuesday night around 11pm a number of us are going to hang out and talk about how images like this can be created to produce a Creative persona in your community that will lay the ground work for secondary marketing of your skills....

Any questions let me know, We do not create this fluff facade of Superstars and over hyped garbage. It is just three days of hard core learning , sharing and making a lot of new friends. It get hard to tell the mentors/ educators form the students because everyone is working to gather....And be ready to hang out late.. Many of the mentors do their own thing after 10 pm and you can tag along....or work with others on specific things you want to improve on... We are all pretty low key in a pretty intense kind of way... And...it is all education, we do not have parties, we do not have a dance, we do not have awards banquets....we just exist in an organized chaos.....

We still have a $72 discount code for Dallas in a week..."ADE72" when you register...https://secure1.marathonpress.com/af...ll/register/71

( there are about 200 people registered at this point...with 35 mentors that is a less than 6 to 1 student teacher ratio. With the quality of mentors.....how fast AD is growing and at this price point...it will be hard to ever match this opportunity again)

Greetings everyone!
Dallas is here and we have the prep notes so you can be ready to rock!

>For image critiques, upload the images you would like to have critiqued to the online pod folder:
Upload images for critiques by 3:00pm on Monday, 4 images max per critique
Main website on the navigation bar….upcoming event > Dallas > Upload critique images. To check out who is critiquing: http://www.afterdarkedu.com/print/grid.pdf

>You must wear your nametags at all times, nametags will be given at registration on Monday. You will not be able to participate with out your nametag…no exceptions

> AD is about giving and sharing, good manners and being polite…..We expect you to be courteous, We expect you to work with your fellow photographers, crowding, hogging, nasty looks, general unpleasantness in unacceptable and will be dealt with in the harshest possible terms! We share the radio popper we do not push; we do not go from bay to bay just shooting.

> Always ask questions. If someone does not know from the AD staff they will direct you to the person that does.

>Models will be available limited to the supple at hand; you will need a group of four people to check out a model.

>Bay 10 is an open bay. There will be a model in that bay for everyone to work with. Play with each other and learn, and play. If a bay does not have a class a model will be there for anyone to work with. You are free to jump in and create.

>The mentor meet and greet Tuesday and Weds mornings are the only time to purchase products from the mentors. We have provided this time to help you understand the additional resources the mentors and our partners provide.

>Our models are volunteering their time to be here. The only compensation they receive is the images you create. By participating in After Dark you agree to upload at least one image per model that you shoot to the image gallery. You will be receiving an upload card in your registration package that explains how to upload to the Marathon gallery.

> Things constantly change during AD. There is a large write board at the registration/ information desk that will have all of the updates on. IF there is something you would like to see, add it… Continue to check the grid banners, as they will also have constant updates.
