Here are two wildlife images for critique...would they be competition worthy?
#1 (disregard the border; this is just the one I had a URL available for!)

Thank you very much Joe! If I were to enter that image, would it be entered in the Illustrative category?

Yes these are competition worthy but that statement does not tell us what your expectations are. Do you want to get involved, learn and have some marketing possibilities . . . then definitely! Are you asking if they are sure thing for merits? That is really hard to determine from small files. I like both of these images though I have concerns on the bird. I see a white line around the bird that is an indicator of over sharpening. Some times these things show up more on low res files. My other concern is the composition on both images could be improved with the cropping.

Keith,
Thank you for your reply! I definitely want to get involved and learn; I figure the merits will come in time as I progress and learn what constitutes a merit-worthy image.

After reviewing Keith's comments and studying the elements of a merit image, I am contemplating a couple of different wildlife images for competition, as I feel they are possibly stronger images and tell more of a story. Any critique is welcome!
