View Full Version : Specialty Designations

Ok....I think I may be losing my mind here. I was thinking that I read somewhere that you could have specialty designations added to your CPP designation. If I remember correctly the first 3 designations were free and each additional after that was $50 each. The requirement was to enter an additional 20 images for each specialty you wished to be considered for.
My problem is I can't seem to find this anywhere now. I've searched everywhere I can think of and I've resorted to pulling my hair out.
If anyone knows where I can find this information please let me know.
If it applies to something different let me know that as well so I can stop going crazy over this. I will be uploading my images tomorrow and figured I may as well try for a specialty designation if this really was an option.

I know that they used to do that, but am not sure if they still do or not. I'd be interested in knowing that myself. I know that Jackie Haggerty has several specialty designations, but I'm not sure how often she is on here anymore. She is on facebook though. Maybe I can ask her next time I log on.

When I got my specialty designation, it was an additional upload of 10 images from the specialty. You need to contact whoever is in charge of the certification program to get an additional account for the specialty upload. (it used to be Marisa Pitts; not sure who is in charge anymore)

OK. I contacted them through the live chat and they say that the specialties are part of the Merit Degrees and not part of CPP. The Live Chat button is a really good resource btw. Here is how the conversation went:
[Kelly] Good Afternoon. Thank you for contacting Professional Photographers of America. My name is Kelly. How may I assist you?
[Greg Yager] I have a question in regards to specialty designations
[Greg Yager] I read somewhere that I could receive up to 3 designations when I received my CPP. Is this still available?
[Kelly] Are you talking about the different degrees you can get?
[Greg Yager] Well I thought it was designators you could get along with CPP. It may have been part of the Master's degree though.
[Kelly] Yes it is part of the Merit degrees.
[Kelly] Master of Photography, Master of Electronic Imaging, and Photographic Craftsman.
[Greg Yager] I remember reading where I could turn in an additional 10 senior portraits to be considered a Senior specialist, 10 wedding for wedding specialist, etc... The first 3 were free and each after that was $50
[Greg Yager] oh ok
[Greg Yager] Thank you very much for clearing that up
[Kelly] Thank you for allowing me to help you today. We appreciate you as a member of Professional Photographers of America, and if there is anything else we can do to help you, please let us know. Please feel free to contact us by phone at 1-800-786-6277 or contact us by email at email@example.com. It's our pleasure!
[Greg Yager] have a great day. You've been very helpful.

I think there's still some confusion here. Greg, I believe you are correct in your original assumption that specialty designations come with the CPP. I have four specialty designations with my CPP, the first three were free and the fourth cost me an extra $50.
As far as I know, the specialty designations are no longer being offered. At least I cannot find any referece to it. If anyone has more information, please let us know.

I think they may have just scrapped it in the last week. The last post I put up was a copy/paste from the chat session I had. She seemed confused at first but came back with the reply you see.
I just finished uploading my 20 images for cpp review and now I get to wait nervously for the next few weeks.
I would be interested in submitting for specialty designations if that's still an option so if anyone knows please let me know.
