This has come up in the past but as we are into comp season, I wanted to bring it up again for clarity.

What are the different competition catagories and what should be known about entering each?

Example, when should one enter Open vs. AI?

Please list and give any help possible on each catagory.

For PPA image competitions...

PO - Photographic Open - the maker has to be the Photographer and has to have direct imput on any artwork, printing and presentation (meaning the maker does not need to nesc. do the artwork and printing but instruct the lab / artist on what to do and what media to print on as well as mounting / presentation to use). Can be Portraits, Wedding, Illistrative etc. Merits apply to the Masters of Photography Degree.

Album - A series of images with a common theme (wedding, portrait or illistrative) either in a physical album or entered as a file.the maker has to be the Photographer (can be a multi maker but make sure to follow the rules for this option) and has to have direct imput on any artwork, printing and presentation (meaning the maker does not need to nesc. do the artwork and printing but instruct the lab / artist on what to do and what media to print on as well as mounting / presentation to use). Can be Portraits, Wedding, Illistrative etc. Merits apply to the Masters of Photography Degree.

EI - Electronic Imaging - For this catagory the maker has to do all of the electronic work (PS) on the entry but they do not have to be the actual photographer. The only regional / affiliated competition for Seals of Approval is at South East PPA. You can also enter at the international competition just as in all catagories. Merits from this competition apply toward the Master of Electronic Imaging Degree.

Commercial - Photographic Open - the maker has to be the Photographer and has to have direct imput on any artwork, printing and presentation (meaning the maker does not need to nesc. do the artwork and printing but instruct the lab / artist on what to do and what media to print on as well as mounting / presentation to use). The only regional / affiliated competition for Seals of Approval is at South East PPA. Merits apply to the Masters of Photography Degree.

Hope this Helps

Thanks Keith for the detailed post.

Question and I think I know the answer but just to clarify for those who are new to this.

A case can only consist of one catagory, e.g. all for PO or all for EI etc. in other words, you can't ship two PO and two EI in the same case. Is that correct?

That is correct Ron. A maker can enter a case of up to 4 images in the PO catagory and / or they could enter a case of up to 4 images in the EI catagory but NO MIXED CASE options.
