Here are a few of the images I am considering for our state comp. Critique wanted and be brutally honest.

The first image(Communion?), - Be sure there is detail in the whitest portion of the boy's shirt in the final print, especially under bright lights such as are used for judging. I think it has a good chance for juror approval.
#2 image- Very nice concept and execution! The only thing I see which may concern some jurors is the "cut off" legs as the child's legs sink into the fabric/clouds. It will be interesting to see if anyone discusses that. Again, be sure there is detail in the highlighted whites in the final print.
#3 image- Very nice presentation again! Love the use of color(s) in the background. You have overcome many of the "usual" issues with close up portraits. The lighting on her face may be considered a little less dimensional or a tiny bit flat however, perhaps you could do a little touch of shading so the light falls off a bit more from left to right. And I can[t quite tell at this screen size if there is a shadow from her hair on the viewers right side of her face??? or if it is a small strand of hair. If it is a shadow- it would conflict with the light direction of the catchlights in her eyes.
Image #4- Very nicely done. The only distractions I see at all are some of the tiny elements in the background which still retain a bit of sharpness or color, perhaps they can be worked a bit to be a touch more subdued. The one I noticed first was the diagonal line coming nearly out of hte top of her head...
Nice work overall, you must have some previous experience at print comp!

Thank you Sam I apprecaite your input. Yes this is my 3 year competing so I have some experience. I do have some more for you to review if you don't mind. Rick Massarini has also critiqued all but the ones of the little girl in pink.

One more request and I will let you enjoy the rest of your weekend. Would you tell me which in your opinion are my strongest 6 images.

Thank you in advance for your help once again.

Oh Sam... did you forget about my outstanding reply post with a couple more images on Monday. Got to finish these up this weekend for comp. Don't mean to be a pest and I know you are really busy but I really respect your critiques. I miss the old days when the experts would chime in on a post for this in the Open Category for Comp.
The experts section is great but if the experts are so busy (respectfully said) they can't get to all the requests its not a viable resource. Probably preaching to the choir on that one.

Thanks Dianna

I think you have designed a very good image with "In The Garden". I admire the skills to assemble images seemingly from scratch! The results in this case are wonderful, but my eyes keep returning to the mat. I just think it competes with your angel. I see where the color comes from but I think it is the size of the mat combined with the color that becomes overpowering. I suggest just going much darker with it.
I like "Maggie's Tea Time" option #1 - the skin has a better quality, tone and color to it.
Strongest six of these are:
Maggies tea time
in the garden

Dianna, You never know why someone is busy, or maybe just distracted. Yesterday morning Holly had a lymph node biopsy at NE Heart Institute. They were looking for lymphoma. We had known for a week that's what was suspected but the biopsy had to be done by a thoracic surgeon so we had to wait till one was available. We are very greatful to find out it is not cancer but rather a long term infection she has probably been carrying around for awhile. I try to always jump on any request for help, but this last week I choose to give all my attention to my wife. I am sure you can understand that. It is unfortunate that this happened right when you were the one needing help. Believe me, we did not plan it that way. But I think this one time of me not being able to offer quick feedback should not be a reason to say this thread is not a viable resource. Perhaps if people would start working on images futher in advance, a small delay in responding to them would not be such an issue. As far as anyone at all responding in the open threrad or so called experts responding in the open thread, there is no reason that can't still happen. I haven't because like I explained above, I've been thinking about something else.

I am so glad for your family that the results were negative! I was busy this same time period with teaching a week long school and then traveling to CA to speak at Western States, then back home to speak here as well.
So, I was not able to jump on the duty roster here enough to fill in the gap.
Again, I'm glad for your news.

Keith, I meant no disrespect to you or Sam. You told me upfront that you could not get to them. I respected that and sought help from others while Sam was getting back from his first trip. My comments to Sam were made based on Facebook chats we had had about his schedule and when he thought he could get back and review the other posts.

Rick Massarini gave me an awesome critique and so did Sam. I really wanted at least two Experts/Masters to give me some feedback. I started working on comp prints before Christmas, final step for me is to get feedback on here.

The main point I meant to make was that I liked getting feed back from others too but now others seem afraid to respond. I did have a couple of people PM me and not post on the thread in OPEN and one of the comments is what caused me to make the resouce comment. That comment indicated that PPA won't let others respond, I find that hard to believe. I do not frequent PPA Forum much but each time I did in the past few months, I read comments regarding how the experts have lives too and can't always respond quickly. Again I understand that but since each time I had been on (just viewing threads other times) I read a comment about experts, I assumed this to mean others have complained. (I was not complaining merely stating my opinion based on observation.)

That you for serving as an expert and I do pray your wife will be better soon. Take care!

Sam & Keith, Thank you for your assistance. I never meant to be disrespectful only voicing and observation. Keith I will keep you and your wife in my prayers. Glad you got good news. thanks again!
